Dr. Romona Jackson Jones is an experienced game changing visionary leader, notable for her ability to get things accomplished. She has resided in Douglas County, Georgia for 22 years. Dr. Romona Jackson Jones is the first African American to be elected and serve as Commission Chair in Douglas County’s history since 1870 and she’s the first African American female to win a county wide election as Commission Chair in Georgia’s history since 1788.
Dr. Jackson Jones was recently recognized by the Marquis Who’s Who Publications Board and approved as a subject of biographical record in the 2024-2025 “Who’s Who in America”. This award is limited to individuals who possess professional integrity, demonstrate outstanding achievement in their respective fields and have made innumerable contributions to society as a whole.
Since taking office as Douglas County Commission Chair in 2017, Dr. Jones has transformed the trajectory of local government by permeating efficient and effective 21st century best practices to better serve the citizens of Douglas County. She possesses an irrefutable professional track record with high ethical standards. Dr. Jones’ exceptional breadth and depth of fiscal management and leadership bodes well in public office with demonstrated prudent accountability and oversight for Douglas County Government’s $160 million dollar budget while delivering a special brand of first class transformative services for ALL Douglas County citizens.
Dr. Jones is a United States Veteran, who proudly served our country. She has worked in federal, state and local governments during her 47 year professional career. Dr. Jones has 38 years of professional leadership experience which 31 years is related to Healthcare operations management, multi- million dollar budget oversight, policy development, personnel management, process improvement, strategic planning and master facility planning. Dr. Jones earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern Illinois University, Masters Degree from Chapman University and a Doctoral Degree from Argosy University. Dr. Jones is the extremely proud mother of Shannon Nicole Jones, a Douglas County School System Educator.
Dr. Jones is very active in the community and she goes above and beyond the ordinary to serve the needs of the entire Douglas County community. She was named among the 100 most influential women in Georgia Engineering in 2022 for making Georgia a better place to live, work and play. Dr. Jones has made extraordinary strides while leading Douglas County forward. She led the movement to shape the future of Douglas County by receiving a 100% Census Count in 2020 and broke the record for achieving the highest census count results in the county’s history.
During the unprecedented COVID-19 Pandemic, Dr. Jones gained recognition as being the right leader, the right choice for championing precautionary measures while launching a robust educational campaign to protect the safety and welfare of Douglas County citizens. As a result, Dr. Jones received the 2022 Fred Agel Award presented by Georgia Public Health Association for outstanding commitment and service for promoting public health during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Also in 2022, Dr. Jones received a Public Policy Award for Outstanding work as Chairwoman of Douglas County.
Dr. Jones serves on numerous boards and committees in Douglas County and in Metro Atlanta.
