Under Dr. Romona Jackson Jones' leadership, Douglas County Government has a strong financial position, low debt burden, low pension liability with a very high quality credit position with a strong wealth and income profile. She is highly skilled in managing turbulent budgets and under her leadership, Dr. Jones’s administration increased rainy day reserve funds from $14 Million in 2017 to $56 Million in 2023. Douglas County Governments has zero debt and the county’s tax digest grew from $3.4 Billion dollars in 2016 to $6.5 Billion in 2022.
Dr. Jones' leadership style has permeated the pursuit of excellence in Douglas County with the upmost confidence to compete and move Douglas County forward. She has authenticated excellence in more ways than one and her favorite tag line is “there’s no room for second place”, as Douglas County continues to accelerate to becoming one of the top counties in Georgia.
Dr. Jones goes far beyond the ordinary to secure a seat at the table in order to advance workforce development and economic development initiatives for small and large businesses in Douglas County. Under her leadership, Douglas County’s economic development pipeline has propelled from $500M in 2016 to approximately $4.9 Billion in 2023.

✔️Secured a $10 million FEMA Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency (SAFER) grant on March 7, 2023 to bring 46 new Firefighters to Douglas County Fire Department.
✔️Secured robust funding for Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to maximize public safety resulting in second highest competitive pay in metro Atlanta area for Sheriff deputies, purchases of new equipment and resources to protect the safety and welfare of Douglas County citizens.
✔️Secured funding for upcoming construction of new state of the art Coroner’s Office.
✔️Secured funding for upcoming construction of new E-911 Backup Center.
✔️Secured record breaking number of SPLOST projects completed from 2017 to 2023 in Douglas County’s history. Transportation $51 M Fire/EMS $32M Parks and Recreation $17M.
✔️Funded new state of art Youth Innovation Center located in Lithia Springs in 2023.
✔️Funded new Veterans Village Apartment housing to support homeless Veterans in Douglas County in 2022.

✔️Obtained 100% Census Count in 2020 shaping the future of Douglas County to receive its fair share of federal funding for the next decade for construction, health, education, housing and infrastructure programs.
✔️Secured $25 Million dollars in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) federal funding for emergency relief and economic recovery purposes in Douglas County due to devastating effects caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
✔️Worked with State Public Health Officials and launched robust COVID-19 testing site and COVID-19 vaccination sites to mitigate COVID-19 transmission in Douglas County.
✔️Secured funding to provide economic relief assistance to Small Businesses in Douglas County during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Small Businesses are the lifeblood of communities”.

✔️Spearheaded ongoing capital improvement planning efforts to ensure proactive preventative maintenance and upkeep of existing county buildings, parks, libraries, and recreational facilities.

✔️Increased Douglas County Government Employees personal days from one day to three days per year.
✔️Funded recognition of Juneteenth Holiday for Douglas County Government Employees.
✔️ Addressed hazardous materials vulnerabilities by ensuring Douglas County Fire Department Executive Command Staff worked in coordination with the Railroad System to obtain Material Data Safety Information to enhance HazMat readiness in case of potential derailment spills.
✔️ Safety is priority for Dr. Jones and she’s grateful for the Georgia Department of Transportation’s work in 2021 with improving the safety of six bridges in Douglas County where they cross over the I-20 which included jacking, decking preservation, cap strengthening and painting the steel beams.
✔️ Funded vital resources to support Douglas County homeless camp hailed as a model state program.
✔️ Communicated through face to face meetings and written communication with GDOT officials to express Douglas County citizens concerns about the lagging 92 Highway project and played a vital role in expediting project completion.
✔️ Led efforts to fund Douglas County Community Services Board from various perspectives starting from new state of the art facility and major resources to provide superior mental health, substance abuse, and developmental disability access to Douglas County citizens.
✔️ Dr. Jones understands the importance of healthcare access being that she served as a healthcare professional for 40 years. Upon taking office in 2017, Dr. Jones quickly recognized a $121,000 per year contribution from Douglas County Government was insufficient to address the needs of mental health and social wellbeing for a growing population in Douglas County and therefore advocated and secured a $1.2 million budget that contributed successful diagnosis and treatment.
✔️ Dr. Jones is fully committed to Public Health as evidenced by her exemplary leadership skills during the COVID-19 Pandemic. As Chairman, she serves on the Board of Directors for Cobb & Douglas Public Health and proud of the HRSA grant received in 2019 up to $5.5 million over five years to improve maternal health outcomes before, during and after pregnancy for at risk populations and to reduce racial and ethnic infant death disparities and negative outcomes in the first 18 months of life.
