Despite global economic uncertainties, Chairman Dr. Romona Jackson Jones maintains a “service elevated” mentality while doing more with less with a zero debt status in Douglas County Government. 

During her tenure, there has been a reduction in major crimes, emergency management and public safety resources refined, senior housing inventory increased, and milestone intermodal transportation services with connectivity to Marta made available to Douglas County residents. 

Dr. Jones has led significant advancements in mental health and public health services, championed robust work force development programs, committed to aesthetic transformation of county buildings and parks and recreation sites, enlarged small business economic growth, expanded public engagement opportunities, and revitalized countless milestone road/ bridge infrastructure/ beautification enhancements and much more throughout Douglas County. 

Under her leadership from 2020-2025, Douglas County’s economic development growth achieved unprecedented milestones. This five year growth period yielded an 8.85% in job growth with the creation of 73,074 jobs, 17.45% growth in business firms totaling 3,514 businesses with a (GDP) at 28.38% outpacing the U.S.

In January 2025, under Dr. Jones leadership, Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced a historic $5 Billion investment. This significant game changing investment will deliver jobs and a long term sustainable future for Douglas County.
